In the quiet rural countryside
Where the stars fall down on the mountainside
Where animals shake off maggots and flies
And violence and peace coincide
A chemical was introduced
Spread over crops, which let loose
A flurry of seed on the sleeping town
And unobserved, the spores sank down
Into the face of the hollow ground
Within months, the crops died out
Some whisper we’re not helpless
The message of the zealots:
Eat the damned, eat the damned
The food supply is rotted
The fields are bare
The empty Earth is poisoned and corroded (Rpt 3x)
The poor, the different suffer most
The damaged and disabled
The fervent bite, the pious might
The fears the fall enabled
Politicians take our rights
We’re whittled down to nothing
They hunt for sport, this human war
Over the dying seedlings
